The &quot;shortest cut&quot; I know is, while you are on the Home Screen or in most applications, to press the Menu Key, select Now Playing, and click the trackball. That returns you to the Media Player where you can change songs. Press Escape key to return back to where you were originally. Only a few extra clicks.

If you think about it, once you leave the Media Player, the keyboard functions need to return to their &quot;normal&quot; purposes or you couldn&#039;t dial a call, etc.
