Jan,
Your wireless provider must have upgraded their BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) to 2.5 for HTML email to work. Then, you have to activate HTML email on that BIS (using your login account there). Here are RIM's instructions with more steps:
http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/articles/498/KB15254_f.SAL_Public.html.

Let me know how this works out for you, please.

Daniels,
No way it will EVER work on the 8130. The 8130 has only a white LED behind the trackball, whereas the 8100 has multiple different-colored LEDs. So, the 8130 cannot change colors. Sorry.

I just updated my software on my blackberry pearl 8130. I dowloaded the lightshow for my trackball onto my phone but when I try to open it then it tells me that the lightshow is only for an 8130. Is there any way to get it to work on my phone?

ok well i havent done it yet it took me a while to get back to this site and find it again, so I have one question do you know how to or a link on how to back up my old operating system onto my computer i am a whiz on finding programs or making my own for other applications but im dumbfounded here so if I could do that first I would rather not take so much of a calculated risk considering this is only one of two phones I have and the other is a pos excuse me for using vulgar abbrivations I could also take it back but what would they say I mean they made it so no virii could get on it and I go around them and change things myself I know I sound "weak" in a way but im stuck with them for another 3 years and I dont want to have to pay an early contrat fee etc.

(also I have the unlimited data plan for alltel and its great faster then avg. broadband in the area)

Jon,
I have read whether others have upgraded their phone OS using a version intended for another carrier, so I know it is possible to do. I don't generally recommend it because (1) if the upgrade doesn't work at all, many people wouldn't be able to restore the previous OS, and (2) if you experience any problem at all, you'll always be plagued with the question whether the "off-brand" OS is to blame.

However, I also like taking (calculated) risks. If you have the previous OS version downloaded to your computer, have your phone backed up fully, and have the confidence to plunge into such an upgrade, and are willing to suffer some possible downtime with your phone if something goes wrong...then, yeah, go ahead and try.

For instructions on doing the upgrade, try starting here:
http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/How_do_I_upgrade_the_OS_on_my_BlackBerry%3F. Read thoroughly BEFORE you start. Let me know what happens, please.

Brock,
Thanks for taking the time to share with me/us that solution. I'm assuming they used compressed air to blow out the keyboard really well?

So, the lesson I think I've learned is that...
* if a phone starts acting like one button push is causing a different button push, or
* if a button push doesn't seem to do anything, or
* if a button push happens by itself...
your keyboard may be full of lint or dirt or other debris. So, take some compressed air and blow it out. Actually, that should be a part of some routine preventive maintenance (that's my engineering background kicking in).

Thanks, again, Brock.

Hey Kelly,
So I took my phone into a Sprint Store to have it looked at. They kept it overnight and the next day they told me that my phone just had a bunch of lint in the guts of the phone! They cleaned the connections out and the phone has run perfectly since! Just a few faulty connections! Thanks for your help though!
