How I Installed a Skin on my Pearl
I ordered my skin online at DecalGirl.com, and it came within just a few days.
It came in high-quality packaging that prevented it from being damaged.
I looked over all the contents: no complicated directions, just peel off the skin and apply.
- No soaking the decal the water.
- No need to squeegee out air bubbles.
The only thing necessary is to identify which piece of the decal (skin) goes on which part of the phone. Again, really simple.
And if you were to get it on wrong, just peel it back off and try again.
So, let’s see how it’s done:
1. I used a clean, dry paper towel to clean my Pearl body to make sure it was free of skin oil or other contaminants.

2. I washed and dried my hands to make sure they were clean.
3. I peeled off the first piece…

4. …and applied it. Piece of cake!
The skin is just the right thickness to make it easy to handle, and easy to apply.

5. And continued, piece-by-piece until done. It didn’t take even 5 minutes.
PostScript, 2009-03-16: Thanks to reader Scott for showing me that on the Pearl decal below, there was a cut-out for the camera flash that I failed to remove. Once removed, the flash was uncovered just as it should have been. These decals are truly precision-made, judging from the onces I’ve seen.

6. Lastly, I went to the provided web address to download my matching wallpaper. You provide the same email address you entered when you purchased the skin online. The wallpaper is emailed to that address.

Quality
The skins are top quality. They apply easily with no bubbles. They are removable with no residue. And are compatible with most cases and accessories (I can slide my Pearl in and out of its holster and the skin does not interfere or get peeled off).
Payment Methods
DecalGirl accepts numerous forms of payment:
- Visa, MasterCard, Discover

Another awesome article. Bonus photos at the end of your own decal adventure. Thanks again for sharing!
i’m so glad someone has finally done a decent review of this product! i’ve always wondered about it but could never find any real informative reviews online! thanks! i’m off to go order one right now!
Lee,
I made sure I tested the product myself before writing about it. I first let my 14 year-old daughter experiment on her LG phone. She did it all by herself with perfect results. She doesn’t like the skin I ordered for my Pearl, however!

Hey there, Kelly…
Love your site – so much helpful information. I have a question about the decals: It looks like you applied the decal to the same model as I have, the 8130. But in your picture of the back of the phone, just below point number 5, I only see holes for the camera lens and the self-portrait mirror. My phone has a flash to the right of the mirror; is yours not the same? Is the flash covered by the decal? Or am I just not seeing it clearly?
Thanks!
Scott
Scott,
You are exactly right about the Pearl flash. I looked and the decal on my Pearl had a cut-out that I had failed to remove. Once removed, the flash was uncovered as it should have been. Great catch!
Thanks,
Kelly
I just want to let everyone know that the skins for the Blackberry Curve from Decal Girl do not wrap at the top (as they do on your Pearl). Also the skins are only shown on silver phones, and do not look as nice on the red phones, even if you take the care to choose one that will match. I LOVE the battery cover/back of the phone with the skin, but the front looks like you stuck a sticker on in…even with the matching wallpaper. I wish decal girl would have designed it to cover the entire casing on the front. Would have paid more. Nonetheless, I have removed the decals from the front and now have a red front of the phone and beautiful design on the battery cover.
Alena,
Thanks for the feedback, even if partly negative. You might consider requesting a refund. If there is truly a design problem with the decal, I feel sure DecalGirl will “make it right.”
Kelly
