Spirit,
Make sure you check out the blog portion of newBBie.com. The blog has way more information and gets a faster response from me. This forum is lagging way behind in activity for some reason. Glad you found it and decided to participate, however. Can't wait to hear your questions. Hope I/we can help.
Make sure you're scrolling the pop-up menu up and down to see the entire list of menu choices. Send is near the top.

If that's not the problem, try resetting your phone by doing a battery pull: remove battery, wait several seconds, replace battery, wait for phone to recover. See if that fixes it.

I am glad I stumbled upon your forum. I have both the Pearl 8130 and the Bold 9000. I love both phones and they have proven to be the best smartphones I have ever used and I have tried almost all of them. Right now my Pearl is on standby as it was an Alltel phone and we switched to AT&T mainly due to pricing problems. Not mention we were not happy about the purchase of Alltel by Verizon. Right now I am saving more than a third of my bill with AT&T and I have no compaints about service. I have some questions about my Pearl and Bold that I will address at a later time. Thanks for having such a great site and allowing me to be a part of it!

I've had the storm for about a week now. I can't figure out how to reply to, then send, an email. I can hit reply on the menu, type a response, but I cannot find the option to send the email to the recipient (this is regarding replies only). I've been getting around this issue by choosing to start a whole new email to the individiual directly, but their original email is not included in my response.

I've checked on line and can't find anything specific.

I have noticed a delay like that, too, although I don't remember it being as severe. Make sure that in your Notification Profiles you don't have vibration set. Why? Because it will vibrate FIRST, then RING afterward. It won't vibrate and ring at the same time.

Notwithstanding the above, the delay probably depends on your carrier and not your phone. For example, I did the research and found that the carrier, and ONLY the carrier, determines how many rings before the call goes to voicemail. There's nothing the BlackBerry can do about that. Some carriers reportedly will extend the number of rings if you request, but my carrier--Verizon Wireless--cannot (or will not).

Hello,
I have noticed that several times people have called and they will then tell me that the the phone rang several times however it only rang once on my end. At times it will go right to voice mail after the caller called and it rang many times (before I could answer). I tested this with a land line and found it rang several times but my storm never rang until it went to voicemail. Any help? Thanks

alindholm,
Sorry about the delay in responding--just when you needed a lightning-fast response.

My first thought is that the battery might be bad. Even if it's plugged in to the charger, a bad battery can drag down the phone.

If it's not that, I wonder if Device Memory has been corrupted. You'd need to wipe and reinstall the OS. I have articles about that on the blog portion of newBBie.com.

Email me directly at kelly@newBBie.com if you still need some help. Sorry you're having troubles with a phone you depend on so much.

On my first replacement, have four kids, a husabnd who works for govt, I am very busy, don't have much time to sit at a comp. and communicate with far away famiy. Absolutely love everything the very smart BB Pearl has to offer. By BB shut down on me today. Won't power up to charge, can't get a screen past the turning hour glass, then it goes black. Only the red LED ligth will shine for a few secs. I have a media card to hold pics until I can trans to pc then delete off media card. I do not hold them on the BB memory. I do not hold msgs, music, or anything else not necessary. Any suggestions? Did I mention my husband is not with me now. It is extremely imp. to me that I get to hear fr him via ph calls and email. I can't get any of that now. On line chat at Sprint couldn't help. Thanks so much for rapid responses.

Matthew,
The biggest problem for Pearl owners has been its very small Device Memory, which tends to fill up and cause very strange problems. I strongly recommend you go to the blog portion of newBBie.com and search on "memory problems" to find some must-read articles. It will save you a lot of heartache and help you enjoy this very wonderful phone.

My first recommendation would be for you to take your Pearl right now and pull its battery out, wait several seconds, replace the battery, and wait a bit for it to recover. Then see if the problem persists or has disappeared. That reboots your Pearl, clears out memory to give you the maximum available amount for use, and usually fixes any temporary software or data problems that might be causing a problem.

If that doesn't fix your problem, then I think you may have a corrupt Address Book. Did you recently do any significant sync'ing or editing of your Address Book? Can you back up (using Desktop Manager) your existing Address Book? I hope so, because you may need to delete it entirely then rebuild it.

Please read my newBBie.com article on "managing your address book using Excel" (search will turn it up). That might be very helpful if it turns out to be a corrupt Address Book.

Please return to this newBBie.com forum or blog and let me know how it works out.
Kelly

kisersosay,
I am working on an article for newBBie.com (the blog portion of this site) on the general subject of problems when you connect your BB's and computer's USB ports together, because there are frequent problems with that. It will be a bit longer before I post that article because it's a complex subject.

However, first let me warn you that the single biggest problem with the Pearl is its very small Device Memory. Running without a Media Card is going to put you at the highest risk of annoying memory shortages. I strongly recommend you buy even a cheap microSD card (not the newer technology, SDHC). Then, configure you Pearl to record photos to the Media Card, and use the card for ALL media (music, videos, etc.). Read more on newBBie.com by searching on "memory problems." I think the Pearl is an incredible and wonderful phone--my first BlackBerry "love"--but unless you manage its memory carefully, you will lose much of the joy of owning this great phone.

Now, for the USB-related problem you are having. It's likely you have a problem with your USB driver on your computer. I haven't had anyone tell me they're using the very-new Desktop Manager 4.7 with now-slightly-older Pearl. Should NOT be a problem, but that may play a part in a driver problem, if that's what it turns out to be.

At the risk of overwhelming you, I'm going to email you a boatload of hyperlinks I've been accumulating for my draft article on USB issues. You might find your solution at one of those sources. But don't hesitate to return and ask me for continuing help. I'll warn you that driver-related problems can be a royal pain, especially for a remote person trying to solve without being there to see what's going on.

OK, I just launched the email. I wish you the best.
Kelly

I have no idea how this happened. I've been trying for a week to unlock it. This is driving me nutty.

Applications>Scroll to Address book>Click on it>Screen locks>small down arrow in bottom right hand corner has disappeared.

In order to access to unlock the screen I must hit the end call button. I can then move freely but the moment I open the address book it locks it again.

@Kathleen,
Glad you love your new World Edition. I'm sure it will be worth every penny.

1. You can schedule reminders for Tasks, either on a given date/time, or some amount of time before the due date. But I know of know of no way of making the task show up on the calendar. I'm sure you've thought of just making your task a Calendar Appointment, either instead of, or in addition to, a Task. I'm pretty sure there are 3rd-party apps that might be more flexible than the standard BB apps.

2. To set a new BlackBerry Browser home page, open your browser and manually type the address to Go To there. The do: (press Menu key) > Options > Browser Configuration. Scroll down to Home Page Address and click the Use Current button.

Hello,
I am a new to the BB world. Recently broke down and purchased a BB 8130 Pearl for use on the Sprint network. I have the phone up and running well, I even have it synced with my Outlook at work. I do not have internet or email on the phone. I primarily wanted it to keep track of my calendar, contacts and notes I keep in Outlook. I am at a point now where I am trying to transfer pics, music, etc. between my phone and my PC. When I open up the Desktop Manager software (v 4.7.0.32 ) and click on the Media tab, the Media Manger application is not highlighted. It's as if my PC doesn't recognize my device. I do not have a memory card installed on my BB. All I am trying to do is transfer some pics from my BB to my PC. Can anyone help me fix this issue?

Thank You,
Hope 4.5 continues to work well for you. Keep me posted, please.

I got a Storm on day 1, and I'm still evaluating it. It was definitely released earlier than the engineers would have wanted (I say that with some confidence because of my background doing similar work in the past). I think over the next year some software updates will come out that will remedy some of the issues. All-in-all I think it's a great phone but definitely takes some getting used to.

As you know by now, I got a Storm. Still evaluating it. Love the larger screen with automatic portrait/landscape mode switching--makes web browsing incredible. Not sold on the touchscreen yet, but realize it's a necessary tradeoff to lose the physical keyboard for screen space. Still adore my Pearl and Curve. Until I get used to the Storm, my Curve is my day-to-day workhorse. Kelly

Well I have a good buddy at a Verizon store who told me there are gonna be some long lines of people waiting for the new Storm. Fortunatly we are good enough friends that mine will already be on charge under his desk the night before. Ha! Lucky me. I would like to get with you next week when we got em in hand and do some hands on with them. BTW, Congrats on your new _ _ b!

hatchet,
I'll be camping out outside my local Verizon Wireless corporate store to grab a Storm on Nov. 21. I've been studying up on some "secret" technical material I obtained, so I hope I'll be able to get up-to-speed on it very quickly. Be sure to come back to newBBie.com to see what new articles I have posted, or to ask any questions.

So far, everything I read about it sounds great.

Hello all and thanks to Kelly for introducting me to BlackBerrys. I have had my first one (Curve) for less that a month and love it but am going to give the new Storm a drive around the block. I have researched and read all the reviews but was wondering if anyone here has any personal experience with one.

If you have a Pearl, it may be a well-known problem of memory shortage. The Pearl has very little "spare" memory. If you aren't careful, you can let your Pearl's memory fill up with messages, call logs, old calendar appointments, etc. The BlackBerry OS (whether on a Pearl or other model) is designed to free up memory when it desperately needs it by deleting old stuff in memory first, then as a last resort, deleting more important stuff. It may have deleted your calendar appointment to free up enough memory to keep the phone running. Please read these articles to help you more:
