ahkhan on "can't use bb svcs on ex-verizon unlocked phone"

I've got a 9530 storm that was originally verizon. its been duly unlocked, and one can verify that its properly unlocked. the voice services work fine no matter which network sim is installed. the first problem was that the network name wouldn't show up (it would show 'activation required'). i took care of that by ##000000Send and typing my mobile number in the first line.
however, now i've installed a telenor pakistan sim. the voice services are working fine. i've had bb svces activated, but thats where the problem starts.

the network tells me that i should have EDGE showing up. but what happens is that on battery reload GSM shows up...but after 20 seconds it shows gprs (apparently caps and lowers matter!).

today, they formatted the phone and reinstalled the latest 4.7 os. but still nothing. same problem. the sim was crosschecked in another blackberry, and all svces activated fine.

one thing to note is that even after the format, when you carry out the ##000000send, it is still showing verizon data in there....like emails etc etc. i've tried to delete them, but the screen won't exit with the changes.

the carrier thinks that there are some verizon settings that are still stopping it from hooking up with an alternate carrier.

your help would be greatly appreciated. thank you..

First, try pressing the Menu key and see if you have an option to "Unhide" icons. Next, try resetting your Storm by pulling the battery: remove, wait, replace, wait.

blackberrysmartphone,
Make sure you're scrolling the pop-up menu up and down to see the entire list of menu choices. Send is near the top.

If that's not the problem, try resetting your phone by doing a battery pull: remove battery, wait several seconds, replace battery, wait for phone to recover. See if that fixes it.

I've had the storm for about a week now. I can't figure out how to reply to, then send, an email. I can hit reply on the menu, type a response, but I cannot find the option to send the email to the recipient (this is regarding replies only). I've been getting around this issue by choosing to start a whole new email to the individiual directly, but their original email is not included in my response.

I've checked on line and can't find anything specific.

im lovin it as a new BB user would. much faster SMS and speed dials for me as i was not yet aclimated to the Curve. found that by delteing Navigator and other unused items, process speed up considerably. i directed a Verizon Tech Service lady to your site the other day and she was impressed. I was the phone with her and walked her to your site. she plans to join and provide tips and shortcuts for the Storm.

thanks,

As you know by now, I got a Storm. Still evaluating it. Love the larger screen with automatic portrait/landscape mode switching--makes web browsing incredible. Not sold on the touchscreen yet, but realize it's a necessary tradeoff to lose the physical keyboard for screen space. Still adore my Pearl and Curve. Until I get used to the Storm, my Curve is my day-to-day workhorse. Kelly

hatchet,
I'll be camping out outside my local Verizon Wireless corporate store to grab a Storm on Nov. 21. I've been studying up on some "secret" technical material I obtained, so I hope I'll be able to get up-to-speed on it very quickly. Be sure to come back to newBBie.com to see what new articles I have posted, or to ask any questions.

So far, everything I read about it sounds great.

Hello all and thanks to Kelly for introducting me to BlackBerrys. I have had my first one (Curve) for less that a month and love it but am going to give the new Storm a drive around the block. I have researched and read all the reviews but was wondering if anyone here has any personal experience with one.
